Cleburne, Texas — Three home runs in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Lake Country DockHounds to a dramatic 6-5 win and a series split with the Cleburne RailRoaders.
Winning in dramatic fashion also put the DockHounds back in third place in the American Association East division standings and in front of Cleburne for the fifth of the season.
Lake Country trailed by three entering the ninth, yet to win on the year when behind after eight frames.
Curtis Terry led off the inning with a solo home run to make it a two run game, but the DockHounds needed another base runner to have a shot.
Dustin Woodcock, yet to reach in the series, fouled off a couple of two strike pitches and worked a walk to bring Thomas Jones to the plate as the tying run. Ahead 3-1, Jones got a hanging breaking ball and his 12th home run of the season tied the game at five.
Brian Rey, who played his last game with Lake Country Sunday and will begin preparing for winter ball in Puerto Rico, went out with a bang by hitting a go-ahead home run with two outs to cap the four-run frame. Rey goes out A’s Lake Country’s leader in batting average and RBI while actively having the most doubles in the American Association.
Jojanse Torres picked up his 12th save after Mike Shawaryn struck out eight in six innings. Matt Mullenbach picked up the win, but his streak of 18 straight zeros ended.
The DockHounds will get a day off Monday before playing 13 games in 13 days, all of which in Wisconsin, with the first of three against the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Tuesday beginning at 6:35 CT.
