Trey Dillard rejoins the American Association by signing with the Lake Country DockHounds. Earlier this season, he pitched for the Cleburne Railroaders.
As a top high school prospect in Arizona, Dillard elected to go the junior college route and attend San Jacinto College in Houston. Recording seven saves and striking out 33 batters in 21 innings for the 2018, Dillard remained a top prospect in the JuCo ranks. The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted Dillard, but not could come to an agreement so Dillard transferred to the University of Missouri.
Transferring to Missouri, Dillard made the jump to SEC play with Jake Cantleberry, who he reunites with in Lake Country. In 2019, Dillard struck out 19 batters in 13 innings. For the shortened 2020 season, Dillard began the year as one of the SEC’s top relievers, posting a 1.08 ERA with five saves in eight appearances to pair with 11 strikeouts.
Due to elbow injuries, Dillard only pitched once in 2022 for Texas A&M before joining the professional ranks and signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in July 2023, only pitching once that summer.
In 2024, Dillard was healthier, able to make 35 appearances. He began the season at low-A Clearawater, but after five outings with a 3.38 ERA, the Phillies promoted Dillard to high-A Jersey Shore. Dillard struck out 44 batters in 30 appearnaces with the BlueClaws and remained in the Phillies organization until spring training this March.
Dillard joins one of the best bullpens in the American Association and is expected to bring more firepower to it.
