Vargas continued to progress through the Dodgers system, receiving a promotion to high-A Great Lakes. With the Loons, Vargas hit 18 home runs, but more impressively walked at a 13% rate.
Once again, Vargas received a promotion for 2022, this time to double-A Tulsa. As a Driller, Vargas hit a career high 22 home runs with 29 doubles and 90 RBI. He became a free agent after the season at age 25.
For the first time, Vargas got to play winter ball in his home country. Imanol suited up for Gigantes del Cibao in San Francisco de Macoris for four games as a part of the Dominican Winter League.
As a free agent, Vargas signed with the Los Angeles Angels for 2024. In May, he was assigned back to low-A, this time at Inland Empire. He hit .275 for the season and once again was a free agent in the offseason. The Pittsburgh Pirates signed Vargas in November and placed him in double-A.
