A Vanderbilt commit, Nick Northcut was taken over-slot in the 11th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. Northcut made his pro debut at Low-A Lowell and didn’t quite put the power on display he was touted for in either 2018 or 2019.
Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Northcut found his stroke and boasted an .865 OPS at low-A Salem. He then opened 2022 at high-A Greenville and clubbed 26 home runs in 77 games before a promotion to double-A Portland.
Following the 2022 season, the Ohio native was named the player to be named later and traded to the Cincinatti Reds to complete the trade for Tommy Pham. Northcut now got to represent his hometown squad.
Double-A Chatanooga is where Northcut began his Reds tenure and saw brief time at triple-A Louisville to conclude 2023. Northcut went back to the Chatanooga Lookouts for 2024 and left the yard 26 times over 107 games. The 25-year-old could be the most powerful bat on the 2025 Lake Country DockHounds.
