A Texan, Bryce Bonnin pitched collegiately at two powerhouse schools in the south. His freshman year was spent at the University of Arkansas, pitching to a 4.26 ERA. Following his freshman year in 2018, Bonnin suffered an injury that led to his release from Arkansas. Texas Tech University snatched up the electric right-handed arm, where he put up big strikeout numbers for two years.
The Cincinnati Reds selected Bonnin with their third-round pick of the 2020 draft, beginning his professional career when MiLB resumed play in 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Bonnin dominated at his first spot, low-A Daytona, with a 1.41 ERA in 32 innings while striking out 44 batters. This stint started midway through the year due to injuries, but he earned himself a quick promotion to high-A Dayton. Three starts into his time at Dayton, another injury sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
Bonnin started the 2022 season in Dayton again, but missed most of the first month of the season with an injury. Six games and five starts into his season, Bonnin was shelved for the remainder of the year and would miss the entirety of 2023 due to injury. He opened the 2024 season in camp with the Reds, but was released in March.
Three days later, the Boston Red Sox signed Bonnin and assigned him to high-A Greenville despite opening the season on the Injured List. In 35.2 innings with the Drive, Bonnin allowed just 20 hits and 16 walks while striking 40 batters across 19 appearances. This earned him a promotion for the first time to double-A Portland, where Bonnin pitched three times before another injury ended his season.
Bryce elected free agency and signed with the Texas Rangers in November for the 2025 season. Texas released Bonnin at the end of March, but he remained in the Lone Star State and joined the American Association with the Cleburne Railroaders. With Cleburne, Bonnin pitched in four games before signing with the DockHounds. His electric fastball makes him a dangerous arm out of the Lake Country bullpen.
