Originally from Wayne, New Jersey, Dominic Cancellieri was an all-conference baseball player at Bergen Catholic High School, committing to Notre Dame upon graduation.
In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he made one start over six appearances for the Fighting Irish, racking up twelve strikeouts over eight-and-a-third innings. His sophomore year, he threw 15 more innings over ten appearances and struck out 18 more hitters.
Cancellieri transferred to Creighton in 2022 and made 13 starts for the Bluejays, pitching to a 4.55 ERA with 52 strikeouts. He earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week (April 11) after throwing five-and-two-thirds innings of hitless baseball against Georgetown.
In 2023, he made 14 appearances with 10 starts, accumulating 58 innings. He went 2-3 for Creighton with a 5.43 ERA and 60 strikeouts while walking just 19 hitters. Against Villanova on April 10, he retired the final 21 batters with a career-high 12 strikeouts to earn D1Baseball.com’s National Pitcher of the Week.
Dominic made seven starts in 2024 before going down with a season-ending injury after just 35 frames of work where he averaged a strikeout per inning. He earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week Honors on February 26 after allowing just one run over five innings against Houston Christian.
In his final year of college ball in 2025, he totaled 55 more innings, averaging a 2.29 ERA and a 2-1 record in 13 games. He was awarded his conference’s Pitcher of the Year distinction for his efforts. The Bluejays won the BIG EAST Championship and advanced to the Fayetteville Regional. Now, he begins his professional baseball journey in Lake Country.
