A Venezuelan-born right-handed pitcher, Gabriel Aguilera was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an international free agent and made his professional debut with the club’s Dominican Summer League level in 2019 at the age of 18 years old.
After not playing in 2020 due to the pandemic, Aguilera came stateside and climbed through the Arizona Complex League up to Low-A Daytona. He didn’t make an appearance in 2022 while battling injuries but made 11 more starts between the two levels in 2023.
In 2024, Aguilera made 12 appearances for Daytona, both starting and finishing games, while earning a promotion to High-A Dayton. While in Ohio, he went 4-4 through 13 starts with 37 strikeouts.
Last winter, he returned to his home country to pitch in the Venezuelan Winter League for Caribes de Anzoategui for six games.
Aguilera started the 2025 season with Dayton, throwing 29.1 more innings and striking out 27 more hitters before being released by the Reds’ organization on July 25. Now, he begins his time in MLB Partner League baseball with the Lake Country DockHounds.
