Born in Raleigh, Will Sandy pitched for UNC-Chapel Hill for five years from 2019 to 2023. Heading into college, he was ranked as the No. 5 left-handed pitcher and No. 22 player in the state by Perfect Game. The southpaw threw 96 innings over his first three years of college ball and reported to the Coastal Plain League with the Holly Springs Salamanders.
Sandy threw in twelve more games his senior year, striking out 14 batters. He then made seven appearances for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2022. The following year, he utilized his COVID redshirt eligibility to pitch in another 17 games for the Tar Heels. He reported to the West Virginia Black Bears for five starts in the MLB Draft League, where he spotted a 3-0 record with a 2.10 ERA to pair.
From the Draft League, the LA Angels selected his contract, and he reported to the Arizona Complex League in August of 2023 with the ACL Angels for three games before being promoted to the A+ Tri-City Dust Devils for another two appearances.
He was released by the Angels and picked up in free agency by the Washington Nationals in April of 2024, where he logged 11 games of work in relief in the Florida Complex League before being released again.
Now in 2025, Sandy makes his first AA appearance as a member of the Dockhounds.
